CMC is used as pelletizing binder and depressing agent in mining industry. The raw pellet that is made with CMC has good anti-explosion performance with high pressure and falling strength of dry and wet pellets. Meanwhile, it can improve the grade of pellets.

In the pellet application, CMC can make it has good sphericity, pressure resistance, deformation resistance, good dispersion, high strength of wet pellet, high anti-explosion temperature, strong ability to control and release water in the pellet and good metallurgical performance.

In sulfide flotation, CMC can significantly enhance the wettability of talc granule and realize flotation separation of sulfide ore and talc.

CMC is used as silicate gangue inhibitors to inhibit lead in the separation of copper and lead. And sometimes it is used as a dispersant of slime.
